“Father, where is she?” Kyoku slams the door on his way in. Through the crack of the four he looks pissed.
Kyoku, help me.
It's dark.
So cold.
It hurts.
I am about to make noise but then I remember what the king told me. “If you make any noise while he is here I will kill you before he had the chance to save you.”
“I don't know what you’re talking about.” The king says. I can see him stand up to talk to Kyoku.
“I know she is in here father. One of the people you have thrown in there told me.” Kyoku looks right at the place I'm sitting in.
“Yes well even if she is in here I'm not giving her to you, why should I?” The king laughs.
Kyoku looks back at the king. “My idiot brother decided to put the necklace on the first person that came through. She didn't do anything wrong”
I can feel something crawling on me. I start to scream but it covers my mouth. I look back out there trying to ignore it. I look at Kyoku and he looks at me frowning.
“What did you do to her?” Kyoku looks at his father wide eyed. Moving past his father he moves towards me.
“If you even open that door she is dead.” The king watches Kyoku. I can see that the king has his shadow moving towards me. The shadows on me cover me completely. The door opens and I feel another set of shadows cover me. “You can't protect her son.” I started to scream when they got tighter.
“Father, STOP.” Kyoku closes the door again. The pressure is released and Kyoku lets his shadows move so I can see. His back is too me but I can see his father glaring at me.
“Get out of my sight. Now.” His father says not once looking at Kyoku. Glaring at me he stands there waiting for Kyoku to leave.
“Hurt her and I will find a way to kill you. Eventually.” Kyoku grounds out. Leaving the room he slams the door behind him. The shadows he has around me goes away but it stays inside of me like a reminder that he is still here.
The king storms over to me throwing the door open. “I said not a Fucking word.” Grabbing the collar he pulls me out of the closet. “Why is he so interested in you?” A light go off in his mind and he drops me. “You're THE one.” Laughing he looks down at me. “This is priceless. A wimpy little angel like yourself being the key? This is too good to be true. There is no way the two of you can bring them down.”
I have no idea what he is talking about. I am not going to be taking anyone down. I just nod and be seems satisfied with it.
“What's this about me being the key?” I knew I shouldn't have said that but I couldn't pretend like I knew that it was.
“They teach you that in school.” The kings looks at me curiously.
“Not on earth they don't. Angels to them are imaginary. I technically don't exist.” I shrug and watch his jaw drop.
“Were you born on earth?” He asks me curiously.
“Yes I was born and raised. Well...I'm not sure. I was adopted as a baby so I was raised on earth.” I shrug.
“I am not the one you and Kyoku are going to have to worry about. His brother is the one. Along with your sister. Your mother was devastated when you disappeared.” walking behind me he takes one cuff of so I can separate and use my arms. “I don't have much time left. Maybe a week left.” He sighs. “If you thought I was bad his brother is worse.”
I shudder thinking of that. “How do you know my mother?” I watch him curiously to seeing he is lying to me.
“Hon, I'm your father. Your mother is the queen of angels.”
“NO! Oh god that's sick. I fell in love with my own brother.” My eyes go wide after I realize what I had just said.
Chuckling he smiles. “This is where you need to know about our history. It is tradition for the king and Queen of the two, too end up together for a short period of time. The kids we have together are split. One girl and one boy. The girls always with their mother because the only thing in their blood is angel the guys go with their father because they only have demon blood and you can't mix then up. You and Kyoku have absolute no relation. That's how it works for us.” He sits down in his chair. “There is too much to tell you before my time is up and the real trouble begins.”
He groans holding his head. I rush to his side but am unsure of what to do. He grabs my arm groaning. “What's happening? I'm sorry I don't know what to do.”
“You...can't…” He grounds out. His grip loosens slightly. His breathing settles and his eyes open and he looks at me. “It's gotten worse.” He gets up and walks to the door. “Let's us go to the dinner hall.” I walk to the door and he takes the other cuff off me.
Following him out the door, I look around the halls. There is a lot of black and red on the walls. Correction, everywhere. He opens a set of double doors to a room filled with people. It looks the same as the halls. Red and Black walls with black tables and chairs that have Red velvate. Its all so...red and black. Kyoku looks up and has a pained look on his face before he sees me. He gets up and is by my side in an instant.
Pulling me into a hug he holds me close. “You okay?” His voice is soft and gentle. I feel his shadows around me and I smile. I'm safe. He pulls back a little to look at me. “You okay?” He asks me again.
“Yeah. I'm fine, just a little shocked and confused.” I tell him with a small shrug. “There a lot of people here, and, they are staring.” I point out.
He laughs. “That they are.” He drops his hands grabbing mine and leads me to where he was sitting. I go to sit next to his brother and he pulls my hand so I am up against him again. “Sit on the other side. I don't quite trust my brother around you.” He kisses my head and smiles. Letting go of my hand I sit on the edge of the bench and he sits next to me. “Eat whatever looks good.”
I grab a piece of bread and watch Kyoku talk to a girl about my age. She has bright red hair that goes halfway down her back. Her eyes are a mild brown. She's wearing a black shirt with a v neck. She looks at me and I smile. She gives me a disgusted look and I tense. Kyoku snakes his arm around my waist and puke me close. The girl rolls her eyes at me before turning back to Kyoku.
“You need to eat more than just bread.” Kyoku whispers to me. He has his forehead against mine.
“I'm not really hungry.” I tell him quietly. “Besides I'm still processing all of this new information.” I shrug slightly.
“Look, I know we need to talk but we can talk after that okay?”
I smile. “Yeah that's fine.” I move my head so my mouth is right next to his ear. “I don't like the girl.” I say softly.
He chuckles leaning back slightly. “I don't think she likes you either. Besides, sisters don't always like each other.”
“Sister?” I whisper shocked.
“Are we going to have this talk now, in front of everyone?” His expression tells me not to push it.
Like always I do the exact thing I knew I shouldn't have. “I have a sister and you decide to tell me now?”
The girl gets up and her bowls fall to the ground and shatter. She gives me one look and she storms off. Kyoku gets up and looks at me. “What did I tell you?” He storms off and stops at the entrance turning back towards me. “Come on.”
“Bro, I'll watch her you go take care of Alina.” Beln tells him. I watch Kyoku's rage Bubble up. “I got her go.”
Kyoku laughs. “No you don't have her.” He looks at me and I get up. “You don't ever have her. Watch it Asshole. I might kill you if you try.”
I keep my head down as I walk to Kyoku. He tilts my head up so he can look at me. “I'm sorry.” I whisper.
He chuckles. “You just don't ever take a hint do you?” Smiling he grabs my hand. “I'm actually glad you don't know how to take a hint.”
I look at him as we start to walk. “And how's that?”
“Let's see, I told you that I shouldn't be with you and you followed me when I came here. I'm glad you're here.”
I smile turning around and walk in front of him do I can see him. “You’re glad I had this put on?” I pull at the collar.
He laughs. “If I could I would take that off. My brother made it so when it's put on the only way to get it off is to kill the person.”
“I kind of like it, nice gems. I mean I could get used to it. Does it seem like something I would wear? Is it my color? Would it-”
“Stop.” Kyoku's shadows surround me bringing me to a halt.
“What?” I turn around and realize I was about to walk right into a balcony with a short railing. My face burns as I turn to him. “Thanks.”
Laughs he just smiles at me. “Can't have you getting hurt on my watch.” He grabs my arm and turns to the left.
“Where are we going?” I follow him looking up at him from the corner of eye.
“You wanted to talk and we are not talking there.” He stops in front of a door that had a golden name plate. It has his name on it.
“Your room?” I look up at him. He just shows me a secret smile and keeps walking.
Opening a hidden door next to his room we walk in. “Not quite.” He holds the wall open for me and I cautiously walk through unsure of where it is going to lead me. He follows me in and shuts the door. “Too many eyes in there.”
“Too many eyes in your own room? How?” I watch what he does closely.
“In a palace this big you are never truly alone.” He has a smile in his face but his eyes convey a different story. “This is a place where no one causing us unless we want them to. The royal garden.”
“So let me get this straight, you demons have a royal garden? I thought that was something only angels have.” I turn to him after a quick examination of the garden. It's about as big as the dining room.
“Yes, we tend to have a lot that you angels have.” He smiles watching me. “I am so sorry about what he did to you. That wasn't right.” He pulls me against him.
“Your father said that he wasn't the one we had to worry about.” I look up at him. “Kyoku, he told me that we had to be careful of your brother. He said something about his time being up. What does any of this mean?” I bury my face in his chest.
He tenses but doesn’t move. “It means that the key, which I’m being told is you will be needed sooner rather than later.” I feel him fidgeting with the collar. “I still don't know how to get this off. I'm sorry.”
“Why are you sorry? It wasn’t your fault it was mine for not just letting you leave.” I smile looking up at him.
There is a fire in his eyes when ours meet. “No I’m just sorry you’re going to be here when I kick that little shit into yesterday.” I giggle and he raises his eyebrow. “Now my little goddess it is not nice to laugh at me.” He’s trying to be serious but I can see the sparkle in his eyes.
“Oh really? And what are you going to do about it?” I smile watching him.
“I could think of plenty of things to do.” He smiles and suddenly I’m over his shoulder getting a nice view of his back. “This could be fun.” He smack my behind.
I go limp and slide down his back onto the ground. I kick his legs out from underneath him and pin him to the ground. “You were saying?”
He smiles and I know he has his shadows surrounding me. “That this would be fun.” I laugh at him again and his smile only gets bigger. He flips me onto my back and smiles from above me.
I laugh shoving him off me. I get up and he does as well. I shove him and he grabs my wrist. “You know if you want to go at it we can. Figure out who is the stronger of the two of us.”
Kyoku, help me.
