Unleashed - Chapter One Myst

He is leaning against a wall in the ally I am walking past. There is a man at his feet begging, for what I can’t hear but it is clear he is begging. “Shut up scum you know what you did… You are so ugly when you speak…” The guy leaning against the wall kicks the man on the ground onto his knees.

I get closer as the man looks up and says “You know I didn’t mean it Kyoku! I’m sorry I mean it I’m so-” The man lets out a cough blood shooting from his mouth, something must have impaled his thought but I can’t see it.

I gasp putting a hand over my mouth to keep myself from making too much noise. I look from Kyoku to the man on the ground back at Kyoku. I sneak behind a garbage can ready to jump if needed. I know I’m off the clock but I still need to make sure nothing is going to happen.

The man collapses and shadows cover him and absorb his body as Kyoku stretches languidly "You shouldn't have messed with my friend..."

I bite back a scream. In my profession, I have seen plenty of deaths but this was different. I get up slowly and quietly and sneak away. I step on a piece of trash and it crinkles. I bite my lip and keep walking hoping he didn't hear me. Wishful thinking right?

I hear Kyoku quietly muttering “You shouldn’t have been watching.”

I faintly feel something on my leg and my pole is in my hand in less than a second but whatever it is, is moving faster and covers me up to the neck. I can slightly move my arms but my legs are frozen put.

Kyoku walks over to me. “Eavesdropping never did anyone any good.” The smile that he gives me is pure evil. Whatever is on me tightens and I grimace.

“Listen just let me go and I can forget about what happened here, I won’t have to bring you in and we can be our separate ways.” I have a net in my pole for this reason. Trying to find the button I watch him.

A deep bellowing laugh comes from him. “You think you can bring in a demon prince?” He was laughing at her and she hated it.

I laugh. “Yeah, I'm pretty positive I can bring you in.” I press the button on my pole and a net shoots out and covers him. Whatever was holding me which I now realize was a shadow because I have lived with one before... is gone “Now you can't get anywhere. With a press of this button, it will fold in on itself killing you in the process. This net is designed for people like you.”

“You think this thin material can kill me? Press the button.” He was so cocky about it that I almost pressed the button then and there.

I make my pole smaller so it is simply a remote with a button but I can't bring myself to press the button. His shadows start sneaking up on me and I drop the button startled. It lands on the button and the net starts to slowly fold in on itself.

My eyes go wide and his eyes follow me and I run over to the net and try to stop it from folding in on itself. “I am so sorry that wasn’t supposed to happen, you, you startled me. Shit.” I pull a knife out of my boots and try to cut the rope even though I know the net is designed to be unbreakable.

I groan frustrated. This wasn't supposed to happen. No, this god wasn't supposed to die. Was he? His shadows go right underneath my hands and completely consume the net. They disappear and the net was gone.

He grabs my arm and smiles “You can’t get rid of me that easy sweetheart.” Within a second I am thrown to the ground. “Who are you?”

I groan at the impact. I get up dusting myself off. “My name is Myst. I work with a company that specializes in apprehending people such as yourself that are not in our database. Known as outliers.”

He smiles “I am Kyoku, Demon Prince, of the seven pits. What were you doing watching me Myst?”

“Well some of us have normal lives so I was simply walking home.” I give him a pointed look. “I'm afraid to say I'm still going to have to bring you in.”

A shadow slams me against the wall, he gets all up in my face and sighs. “Look, Myst, you seem like a nice person. I am not one for killing nice people. You. Cant. Turn me. In.”

I try to grab the shadows that are at my neck but my hand goes right through them. “I-I can't. It's protocol.” The shadow tightens slightly making it harder to breathe.

“Fuck protocol.” The shadows tighten slightly.

How could I turn in the Fucking god, Kyoku? Fuck. “It would be my word against yours because there is no evidence.” I look up at him. “I-” The shadow tightens around my neck slightly making me gasp and try to claw at it. It loosens again. “I could forget that I saw you.”

He sighs. “I will be staying with you for a couple of months.”

My back had started to hurt but all pain was forgotten when he said months. “Months?” I was stunned. “I said I could forget I saw you. You don't have-”

The shadows tightened even more and I’m trying to grab them even though I know I’m not going to be able too. “End of discussion. If you wish to continue I might be forced to get rid of you”

I blink a couple times. I know I shouldn't say something but I did anyway. “Why? What's wrong with putting a little faith into people?”

“If you don’t want me to stay there then fine, I will simply take your voice so you can’t tell anyone.” He tightened the shadows on my neck and my mouth opens automatically, and one is sent down my throat. I whimper slightly as it wraps around my vocal cords, and then it is just gone.

“I told you I wouldn't tell anyone.” I am speaking but no words are coming out. There is no sound. I tried again. “WHAT DID YOU DO?” Nothing, not a sound. I made a bunch of motions that told him “I can still write.”

He laughs at me again. “I could simply get rid of your hands as well.” I shake my head vigorously. “Come let me take you home.” He uses his shadows to take us to the road and I point to the left. I keep pointing, back and forth,  until we get to my house.

I know I should have stayed as far away from him as possible after the stunt he pulled but I was scared. Not being able to talk, could get me killed. I open my front door and walk in. There is no point in locking any of my doors because people in this neighborhood mind their own business. He frowns seeing this and I smile knowing he is upset. Serves him right. We walk in and I close the door. Not having locks means that in this state, I didn't really want to stay alone.

He grabs my arm and takes me to my room, he points to my bed and says “Sleep” I just stand there and stare at him. “Please sleep. I will leave once you fall asleep.” I shake my head. “You wish for me to stay here all night?” He just looks at me dumbfounded. I nod.

“Please?” I mouth hoping he can read my lips. He sighs.

“Fine just sleep.” He walks over to my bed and opens the covers for me to slide into. Laying there he tucks me in and smiles. “Sleep well little goddess.” Is the last thing I hear before I fall asleep.

I jolt awake when someone touches me. My phone is ringing so I pick it up. “This is Myst.”

“Myst. I have been calling you for the past two hours. We have another one on the loose. I have sent you the details. Find him.” My boss hangs up and I sigh.

“Just what I needed, at…” I look at the time and screech. “10 o'clock? What the hell.” I jump up and let out a yelp of surprise when I see Kyoku just sitting next to my bed.

“You sure are a sound sleeper little goddess.” He smiles as he watches me.

I sigh in frustration. “I am not a little goddess, thank you for my voice back but I have to do my job so you best be on your way.” He is laughing at me. I sigh. “Unless you plan on helping me track down this person, get out.” When he doesn't move I smile. Looking for the document that I was sent he sits there watching me. “The person we are looking for is a demon prince, said to possess the shadows, He is about 6 foot, so your height. He has black hair, eye color unknown.” I groan. “Great so we are looking for someone that is like you.”

“It is me.” His words are ice.

“No, it can’t be.” No. Way. My boss didn't just make me bring him in. “No...I-I can't. This will ruin me.” I groan throwing my phone onto the bad and follow it face first.

Kyoku chuckles. “You can't turn me in. I'm sorry but I won't allow you to.” His voice was cold again the shadows swirling around.

I groan. “I get that if I talk about turning you in, your going to take my voice again.” I turn towards him and barley bite out, “Do that again and I will kill you.”

“Come let us go searching.” He puts his hand out and I sit there for a good second before I put my hand in his and he smiles

I know I shouldn't, just like every other time I knew I shouldn't but still, I did. He pulls me up off the bed and I shed his hand to go get dressed. I put on a white t-shirt, black pants and black tennis shoes with white soles.

“Perfect.” He smiles. Grabbing my hand again he pulls me close to him and his shadows engulf us, when they are gone we are no longer in my bedroom.

I pull away from him feeling like I'm going to puke. “It will pass.” He tells me keeping a hand on my back.

“Where are we?” I ask putting my hands on my knees.

He stands there watching me. “One of my second homes.” He smiles.

I grab his arm as I look around. We are definitely not on earth anymore. There are all kinds of creatures. I look up at the sky and see various people floating up there. From a level 4 all the way up to a level 10. Angels, Devils, Dust bunnies, leprechaun, Dwarfs. Everything. “This is amazing!” I am smiling uncontrollably.

Unleashed ~ Chapter Eight ~ Kyoku

“KYOKU!” My goddess yells after me as Quin’s guards drag me away. “Let me go!” I use my shadows to incapacitate one and the other guy just puts a collar around my neck. My shadows disappear and I cant call them back. I can still feel the shadows I left in Myst. I close my eyes as they drag me along the corridors so I can see Myst. “Quin! What do you expect me to do?” She runs at the door as he closes it. He locks it leaving her in the guest room. No windows and no other doors to get her out of there. “Myst,” I say her name and she looks up. “Kyoku?” She gets up and reaches her hand out to me but suddenly she is jolted away from me. I open my eyes in time to see them throw me in the kitchen. “You are on food duty.” One of them says. “I can't cook,” I tell them but they just walk out leaving me there. “You got put on cooking duty too?” A small voice pipes us behind me. I spin around for a quarter second I think it is Myst but then I realize it is the girl from earlier...
